- What is a domain name?

Similar to how your house address indicates where you live in the world, a domain name indicates where your computer's location is on the Internet. Organizations that do business over the Internet want domain names (addresses) that are easy to remember and that are closely related to their company's trademark, so that customers can locate their web site very easily.
The actual domain name is a simplified, easier to read translation of an IP (Internet Protocol) address. The Internet is composed of a vast number of interconnected computers. Each of these computers is assigned a numeric value of the form XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. This numeric value is called an IP address. If each computer on the Internet were identifiable only through its IP address, people would have a lot of difficulty when trying to locate each other and having to memorize each other's addresses. Domain names simplify IP addresses into an easy to remember combination of words and numbers.

- Who can register a domain name?

Individuals, organizations, ISPs, corporate resellers, etc. Anyone who currently wants, or is thinking of acquiring, a distinctive, individual presence on the Internet now, or at some time in the future.
Domain names are essential for businesses that want customers to find them on the Net, and who wish to communicate with their customers through e-mail.
Domain names are for Information Providers: the Internet allows an unlimited number of people to have access to detailed information at little or no cost to the information provider.
Domain names are for People Like You: if you want a recognizable presence on the Internet, a domain name will allow others to find you easily and quickly.

- Why do I need a domain name?

Domain names are designed for people, IP addresses are designed for computers. If a company wants people to find their web site easily, they will need a domain name.
Domain names are registered on a first-come first-served basis. The fact that someone may have incorporated under a name or even that they have filed a trademark application does not automatically permit them to use that name. All parties who have legitimate use for a name, share the same rights to a name.

If a company conducts business over the Internet, or even if that company plans to do so in the future, they should register their domain name(s) now. Once a name is taken, it's gone.

- I want to register an expired name but can't. Why?

When a domain name expires that does not mean that the domain name will be available for registration. Many registrars will keep domain names and auction them off, sometimes to the original owner, for much higher prices then the renewal would have cost. When a domain name still shows up in a whois lookup it means that the domain name is not available for registration because the registrar has not released it yet.

- If I register a domain name and use my own DNS (name servers) will my domain name be active right away?

Your domain name will be active within 48 hours from the time of registration.

- I have a website already. How much does it cost to have people type in my new domain and get to my site?

When you pay for the registration of your domain name through DNbuy.com you receive URL Forwarding and URL Framing(cloaking) FREE of charge. We never show any banners or have any pop-ups on your site to promote our services. It is your asset once you have purchased a domain name from DNbuy.com

- Can I set up URL forwarding and use my own DNS (name servers)?

No, because you are using your own DNS instead of default. We do not have access to this DNS and can not make any changes to your forwarding settings. If you want your domain name to forward to an URL you must use our name servers or have your web host set up URL forwarding for you on their webserver.

- Must I specify an organization name when I register?

If you do not have an organization name you must put something in this field. You can include your name or the domain name to be registered. You can not register a domain without including this information.

-How much do you charge for renewals?

Renewal fees are always same with the price you pay while registering your name. We have an optional auto renew function which automatically renews your domain and never let it to expire. It is not an obligation to use this feature. You can set this ON/OFF any time within your management area.

-If your website goes offline for any reason, such as server updates, would such an event affect the services you offer - such as URL / email forwarding?

No, never. Our DNS servers are independent from our website and your domain names will never be affected because of possible website errors. The servers we use are serving over 600.000 domain names to the Internet! Even if the website completely goes offline(this never happened, just to mention) you will still be able to manage your domains by logging in from the "log-in for management" link. You can copy the URL of this management area if it will help you feel better in the future.
